South Carolina State Library Construction Collection

About

The South Carolina State Library and the South Carolina Digital Library present the South Carolina State Library Construction Collection, a collection of images of the construction of the State Library building from 1969-1970.
The photographs are from the archives of the South Carolina State Library, documenting the construction of the South Carolina State Library at 1500 Senate Street in Columbia.  In 1969, the State Library Board was redesignated as the South Carolina State Library and assumed responsibility for public library development, library service for state institutions, service for the blind and physically handicapped, and library service to state government agencies. The State Library building was financed with state and federal funds and dedicated on February 18, 1970.
