The Cranston Family Papers, 1822-1959, collection contains loose papers belonging to Harold Dener Cranston of Capers Island in Charleston County, South Carolina. Correspondence consists of letters (1850) from plantation owner James Vidal in Charleston (S.C.) to H. Cranston at Capers Island. Letters concern shipments of sugar and rice; repairs to boats; planting of corn; Vidal’s questioning of the enslaved people, transportation of timber; supplies for Cranston and other plantation matters.
Also found within the collection is a bill of sale for three enslaved persons sold to Harold Cranston from Jenkkins Mikell and a medical bill for the treatment of an enslaved woman from Dr. B.B. Strobel.
