Gourdin Family Collection, 1707-1903

The Theodore L. Gourdin Estate Record, 1826-1829 is part of the Gourdin Family, 1707-1903, collection and is a bound record written by estate executor, Theodore Louis Gourdin. A South Carolina state legislator and plantation owner, Theodore L. Gourdin was the son of Theodore Gourdin (1764-1826) and Elizabeth Gaillard. Establishing himself in St. Stephens and St. John’s in Berkeley Parish, South Carolina, he owned plantations and other properties in several counties including Georgetown, Williamsburg, and Clarendon. The estate record contains financial accounts in the late 1820s regarding appraisements, inventories and account balances for Murray’s Ferry, Red Clay, and other Williamsburg County Plantations, often naming the enslaved people on the properties.
